I would like to tell you a story of a boy and a girl,

The boy had long hair that always tended to curl.

He first saw this girl in the course of his study,

She wore a floppy sun hat that looked kinda fun.

But she lifted her head to reveal a smile,

The most beautiful smile this boy had seen in a while.

Quickly the boy became very fond,

Of this beautiful girl topped in golden blonde.

Her joy, her happiness were contagious and fun,

And they lived out their uni days smitten on rum.

But their joy was interrupted.

For that boy moved away,

To pursue his passion as a teacher,

To show kids how to swim, run and play.

That girl became a nurse,

And cared for those close to the end.

She was helping so many,

But that boy missed his closest friend.

The distance became too much,

And the solution was all too clear.

That together they would travel,

For a better part of a year.

Then this boy and girl caught a plane,

To a land of ice and frozen rain.

They moved into their little one room flat,

And cleaned the toilets upon which rich people sat.

And from continents to continents together they leapt,

They landed in Arctic, a place where the sun never slept.

They picked their veggies and learned of a simple life,

And meandered through wild raspberry bushes that ran free and rife.

Before they knew it, they’d lost a year.

And soon they would be home to the same world they fear.

So they raised their glasses and saluted the setting sun,

On the lawn of the Eiffel Tower they recounted memories of their year on the run.

They returned home to a place that hadn’t changed,

But their hands no longer held, their kisses not exchanged.

The sense of loss that boy felt was growing,

Every minute without her, time seemed to be slowing.

Then the boy proposed that they marry,

His knees so weak his body could hardly carry.

She said yes in between endless tears,

Which relieved the boy’s unwarranted fears.

With the help of a willy wag tail and a diamond ring,

Together they would now wed in a place where angels sing.

Seven years of memories are hard to compress,

In a short poem with love to express.

Ainsley my beautiful girl, I’m so very excited,

To share in the moment where our souls are united.

And so on our wedding day,

I have one last thing to say.

“I’ve waited a lifetime to see you walk down that aisle,

My golden haired girl wearing that beautiful smile”.
