I’ve been wanting to share this wedding for months. To me, it’s by far my best work, not because of photographic technicalities or because of a to-die-for location, but because if you really, really take the time to look at each photo, you will see the most amazing connection and love shared between James and Mel.

Their wedding was one of my favourite without the need to have an extravagant venue, alcohol, a five piece band or all the trimmings that go with a huge price tag of getting married. It was all about them and their love for each other and I believe the images are evidence of this.

James and Mel had already shared 10 years of their lives together, built a house which was now their home, had adventured all around the world and had been engaged for nearly 12 months when James was shockingly diagnosed with Bowel Cancer.

Their original wedding plans were put on hold while James sourced medical help to bring back his radiant health. At only 27 years old, not only was the world his oyster but life was there for the taking…

Close to 9 months after the fateful diagnosis, James and Mel shared an intimate, lunchtime affair in their own backyard which was filled with gorgeous touches of blooms, homemade lemonade and a slideshow in the backdrop featuring moments captured from their last decade together. Dressed in the most elegant, show stopping gown that James’ mother made, Mel radiated beauty. Even a passing afternoon storm couldn’t deter the love and joy that filled their backyard.

This was the most beautiful day I have ever been a part of in celebration for two of the bravest people I have ever met. As an outsider it was evident that these two were the perfect match. Words were not needed to know how in love they were.

Only a short six weeks after their amazing day, James passed away. The world has lost an amazing, kind, strong and loving soul. Although I was only privileged enough to spend a few short hours with him on the afternoon of his wedding, I will be forever grateful that I too got to meet such a wonderful human.

To the gorgeous, brave and stunningly beautiful Mel. Thank you for allowing me to be part of such a sincere and magical day. I love that we now stay in touch and I wish you all the happiness for your future. I hope these images bring you smiles and blessed memories for years to come.

If you are touched by James and Mel’s story we would love it if you could please donate to Bowel Cancer Australia xx
